Success Stories - Cost Savings
eServ helps Redesign Combine Cab Landing
The Challenge
Part failures, safety, and production costs were of major concern to eServ’s client, a fortune 500 farm implement manufacturer. For a Combine Cab Landing currently in production, eServ was asked to redesign the landing assembly to meet five specific goals:
- Improve part failure rate
- Meet manufacturer’s safety requirements
- Simplify fabrication procedures
- Reduce production costs where possible
- Establish single-source parts procurement for the ladder assembly
The Solution
A total redesign of the Combine Ladder Assembly was completed. The following engineering processes were employed to reinforce the part assembly to eliminate product failures and to increase production cost efficiencies.
- Design
- FEA Analysis
- Cost Analysis
- FMEA
- Project Management
eServ part assembly redesign reduces production costs, eliminates complex tooling & improves safety.
The Result
eServ’s Proof-of-Performance Engineering Process delivered the following results:
- Eliminated part failures
- Reduced costs by $4.00 per unit
- Established a single-source supplier for top assembly fabrication
- Utilized common tooling to reduce costs
- Created a common design usable on all cab landing sizes
- Reduced lateral handrail movement
- Utilized a tread pattern common to industry eliminating tool costs
- New design fits old production model to ease service concerns
- Production ladder and handrails are interchangeable among model
